EDITION29 ARCHITECTURE 001 App Reviews

Curious but cold

These structures dont appear to be homes but rather empty shells. Minimalist and empty, they express the architect"s desire to express form over function. Interesting structures to look at I suppose, but lacking warmth and friendliness, not how Id like to live. But how to rate this app? The presentation - image, video, sound and music - is excellent (though it crashed a few times) but the content is disagreeable... Oh well Ill give it a 3 ;-)

everything is beautiful but please add in app purchase

I would like to continue to buy your outstanding issues in the future if you make it in app purchase. Very vivid app!!!!!! 5 stars!!!

Closest to "the magazine of the future"

The content is as beautiful and austere as one would - or has come to - expect from these series, but its the interface that really shines. Other than the usual oversight, which is that you return to the app at the coverpage every time, there are many treats within. Someday, these iPad magazines will make the text vector-based which will change everything, but until then, this is as good as youll see, in that the developers have actually put some thought and effort into it.

Bad upgrade

This app crashes upon opening, after the recent upgrade. Issue No. 2 is still fine. I love app/magazine, but wish they would fix it.

Simply unreliable

The magazine excited me because of its innovative interface. As an arch student, I can commend on its radical approach to designing an extra creative arch magazine. Some of the image slides, however, can be very frustrating as you dont have a choice to see the whole image right away (The screen shows one half of each image and then very slowly slides to reveal the other half, eliminating the option to see the whole to receive a quick impression of architecture.) The real concern however, is the poorly functioning library system through which you purchase and collect the magazine issues. Upon the first run of the app, the magazine was quite delightful. On the next three runs, however, I kept seeing complete black screens and nothing else. I was forced to reset the app by reinstalling it. But the result was the same every time: black screen. On top of this disastrous failure, I have lost all my purchases that happened within the magazine library. The first issue I purchased was saved as that one was downloaded through apple app centre. Although it saddens me to discourage the magazine with highly creative intentions, the app itself is unreliable garbage. I do not recommend it at all.

Past purchases gone

For some reasons only the last purchase is available for reading. Any idea why?!!!

Good but it can be better

I just bought the app and ignoring some of the bad reviews. To me it seems that everything works fine and the way the magazine is constructed is really engaging. However there is one major thing that I would really like that i think will improve the experience. And that is to upgrade to Retina Display. The text and images will be crisper and I think the experience will get better. Thats all my concern. :)

Great Magazine

This is a dynamic magazine that is really engaging. It reviews interesting projects all over the world. I enjoy the ability to see short videos and flybys of 3D models. I would like to see the projects reviewed in more depth. There arent many drawings provided and more text/analysis could be included. My major complaint is that there doesnt seem to be a way to pause the narrative when you come across text in the article. Other than that its a good publication.

iPad2 wifiで動作せず

写真が読み込まれず、画面が真っ暗です。 ボタンをいくつかおすと落ちます。。 楽しみにしてますので、修正お願いします。 The screen is black-out in iPad2-wifi environment. And the program is shut down when I push some buttons. Im looking forward to the update. Thanks.

Finally, what a digital magazine should be

Absolutely great experience. I have a shameful weakness for beautiful glossy architecture and design magazines. Stunned to think the iPad could actually replace my weekly trip to the magazine shop but here it is! This app leaves many other magazine apps (Zinio et al.) in the dust. Transitions are smooth, animations are tasteful and the photography is breathtaking. More, more, more! - especially at this price, which is far lower than what I pay at the news stand. Bravo!

All magazine publishers take notice...

This is how its done. If you cant figure out how to produce an electronic magazine- here is your blueprint. Well done folks.

What a waste - Save your money!

Dont waste your money on this. It is nothing more than some amateurish pictures that slow zoom in and out. THIS IS NOT WHAT DIGITAL PUBLISHING SHOULD BE! Doesnt even support landscape mode. There are much better digital magazines out there. I suspect that the two other reviews are the developers. Save your money, I wish I did.

Now thats a magazine for the iPad!

Clean and interactive design without the confusing cruft of the print world, a very clean and well designed magazine. Hopefully future editions will be self contained in one app, Id love to have an archive of these!

WOW

Leave it to a magazine in the design domain to get it right. Massive future-shock here.

The Best

This has to be the best zine on my iPad. Its just beautiful. Gorgeous layout that works so well with the abilities of the iPad. Im notifying all my friends and intend to buy every future issue. Five thumbs up and thank you for great design, viewed in great design (iPad.)

Done right

How a magazine should be like, and cost like on the iPad.

So-so

The photos are excellent but the design is lame and pretentious. There is in fact not all that much content here and the design attempts to compensate. The selected architecture is all very similar: the classic modernist box from the 50s done again and again and..... Glass curtain walls and flat ceilings Seems like the same architect could have done them all. Rating is to compensate for the over the top 5 stars though generally it might rate a 3 star. You will have seen it all in 15 minutes.

money well spent

good price.... good presentation..... good photograph...... good graphic....

$2.99? got a better app for free

Nice photos but very few of them. The user interface puts form before function- tries to look fancy but really is not easy to use. Not sure why I paid $2.99 for this... Must have gotten spoiled after installing the Houzz app- Thousands of photos (they say 35,000 but who can count?), its easy to browse and best of all- its free.

JAL AIA

This is a very , very good iPad magazine. I fully enjoyed it and will buy future editions. I have a few suggestions: 1. Each project should be required to have plans and sections- no exception. 2. Make important details accessible by tapping on a symbol in the photographs. 3. I would like to see the architect walking through the project explaining his/her intentions. 4. Have at least one panorama for each project. Other than that - great job.
