EDITION29 ARCHITECTURE 001 App Reviews

Great photos but a bit disorganized

This is a beautiful application but I found it frustrating that you cant hear the audio commentary while browsing through the photos of the house being discussed. Once the audio begins youre basically locked into a single photo. Id give this 5 stars if it was a bit more flexible in the navigation.

Very cool but please no Ken Burns!!

A very nice interface for sure and great photos. The audio is a nice addition. Please skip the Ken Burns effect of panning the photos. It does make you sick and want to flip to the next image very quickly. Fortunately its only a few images per project. Well Done.

Dissappoints

The iPad is a lovely way to look at photography, but this app disappoints. Many of the images in this app are over-compressed: muddy and some were clearly pixelated. Also, some of the images look flat on the ipad screen: the color management of the publisher is weak. This could be "coffee table" app, but it lacks that craftsmanship. For an amazing example of how great this app could be, look at the photography in the Wired magazine app: every image is scaled pixel perfect for the iPad screen, the color are as deep as the screen will allow and the the images are always crisp.

iPad Magazine Done Right

A pretty good beginning for the future of the magazine business. Images are gorgeous, hi-res, and the subtle panning and zooming is done with taste. I liked how the text was placed through out, just wished that there was more of it. It would be great to see some video - a tour of the buildings or interviews with the architects would really add to the experience. That being said, $2.99 is a reasonable price for an issue - this is about half the price of buying an issue of a magazine off the rack. Offer a subscription, I would sign up if the price is right!

Outstanding, please keep them coming.

I dont get any less than amazing reviews. This issues is a marvel, the images compelling, the UI is better than WIRED magazines offering and its just plain inspiring. Please keep this series coming. Offer in app purchases of new issues!

Gorgeous app!

Perfect app for iPad. Well worth $2.99! Not just a collection of photos, but an environment. If you like good design, get this app. Houzz is not in the same league.

Finally an iPad mag takes advantage of the medium

This is by far the best mag port Ive seen - really nicely done. The movement, voiceover, and video really add dynamics. Looking forward to picking up new issues!

Fulfilling the promise of the iPad

As I start to explore new avenues on my iPad, none have been been better looking than Edition29. Its a great early take on the future of print journalism. An excellent debut and I cant wait for the next edition. Great job!

Impressive

This is what the iPad was made for. Excellent photography and interviews. In content it is equal to any conventional architectural magazine with the added benefit of having the video interviews and commentary.

Elegant

When I purchased this app, I was expecting a simple slideshow/gallery of quality photography, and I would have been content with that. However, the app turned out to be so much more. The presentation of these photos, videos and audio is dynamic and elegant. Very immersive. I eagerly await future issues of this magazine, and have new expectations for what periodicals on the iPad should be.

Welcome to the future.

This magazine is amazing. Edition29 and Wired are the future of publishing. The images are crisp (except one) and the price is unbeatable. I think I have found a magazine that I will actually pay for. Pros: Generous use of Helvetica and professional photographs make this a worthwhile browse for even non-architecture lovers. Very interesting stories on the houses also. Cons: Almost none. I wish the audio stayed with you when you clicked through pictures. I guess no July issue Worth paying for.

Excellent!

Awesome houses... Great photos.

Just Buy It

This is the future of digital media, jump on board and enjoy the ride. Bravo Edition 29!!!

Terrific digital zine, GPS integration poor

Fantastic example of what a magazine can be when custom developed for iPad format. Gorgeous photography, nice integration of text, video and audio. Would have given it 5 stars if it werent for the poor GPS integration. The idea of locating each of the houses using Google maps is terrific, however in my experience, it never works right -- the embedded Google maps crashes frequently and when it doesnt the GPS locator is incorrect. Fix this feature and this is a killer app.

Crashes On Launch

Updated the app, went to launch it and it immediately crashes. Still have the stand-alone version of issue 2, it works fine.

Simplification of form

The layout, function, and aesthetics of this app blend seamlessly with its wonderful content. Highly recommended if you are at all moved by modern architecture.

The update wrecked this app

I love this series and still support it, but the most recent update causes the app to crash every time I try to open it. I cant get to the issue I purchased in the "hub" where you can download back issues and future issues. No hub. Just crash. Please fix.

Frusterated

Loved the first and second issues. Liked the IDEA of the format change - when I purchased and downloaded the new system and went to purchase the third issue - it simply didnt work. I loaded it three or four times only to have nothing happen. Now it crashes every time I try opening it. WTF???

Architecture Fan

Got this app and could not believe the depth and dimension that this app adds to seeing great new architecture. Keep more issue coming.
